News: Philippine News Online: The Silent Community Speaks Out

BE HEARD... STAND UP... SPEAK OUT!

Speak Out airs on TFC
Sundays / 4:30 PM / PST
Tuesdays / 10:50 PM / PST / Replays

As any civil rights historian will tell you, in the United States of America it is important to be heard. To not have a voice in media is to not have a say in a situation and those are the times in which the ones who can be heard take control. From the voting rights of women and the treatment of African Americans and other minorities, the history of this nation has changed because of the way we are viewed or heard on our media outlets. One cannot be a part of their country unless they have the ability to stand up, be heard… and SPEAKOUT.

Today, the Filipino Americans of this era know how important the value of voice in their community is. They have learned it from years of history not even pertaining to their own ethnic background, but from the awareness of the people around them. It is in that knowledge that they have taken it upon themselves to speak their minds regarding what matters to the Filipino American. Now is the time for their voice to be heard in a venue that is truly committed to serve the Filipino American community --- a true “kapamilya” ng Pinoy --- THE FILIPINO CHANNEL.

On August 27th, 2006, ABS-CBN Global’s The Filipino Channel (TFC) presented the world broadcast premiere of SPEAKOUT, the only Filipino American town hall program. SPEAKOUT is designed as the venue for the youth to: speak their minds; talk about what matters to them; discuss hot-button topics from a Pinoy point of view; and finally, to be heard.

Every week, SPEAKOUT focuses on one particular topic that could range from gay marriage, to interracial dating, to internet safety, and the war. For every episode, a panel of six people from various groups will discuss a whole gamut of topics to bring their own thought on the subject/s. The six people are split into two panels of three where each (panel) presents opposing views. In this show, everyone has the chance to be heard.

SPEAKOUT takes the topical debate one step further by actively involving their audience into the discussion. Studio audiences have the chance to ask questions or make comments on the issues being discussed. Even the hosts of the program have been known to speak their minds on the program’s topics.

SPEAKOUT is hosted by JC GONZALEZ and TALLULAH, two of the most engaging and refreshing personalities on TFC. They are intelligent, they are sophisticated, and they have an opinion and can very well voice their thoughts on any subject or point of controversy. JC represents the Filipino and the male perspective while Tallulah will add not only a woman’s view, but also the Filipino American one.

SPEAKOUT is produced by the same team that brings you CITIZEN PINOY, BALITANG AMERICA and other programs that air on TFC’s Filipino American block of programming known as “The Fil-Am Sunday Experience”. With SPEAKOUT, TFC has reaffirmed their commitment to bringing the Filipino and Filipino Americans the content that they demand, while bridging the generation gap between them. No matter the age or background, if you have an opinion or a point of view that you feel is important then SPEAKOUT is the venue for you. Don’t miss a minute of the verbal action on SPEAKOUT airing Sundays after The BUZZ on the only network giving the Filipino Americans a voice… TFC!

So remember, BE HEARD... STAND UP... SPEAK OUT!
